Last seen in Birmingham wowing the audience at the newly revived Henry’s Blueshouse at the Bull’s Head, Tipitina has long been a favourite at the festival. The band’s unique take on the blues, barrelhouse, boogie and gospel of New Orleans owes much to the music of Professor Longhair, Dr. John, James Booker, Fats Domino and Allen Toussaint, and still more to the powerful vocals of Debbie Jones and Justin Randall’s mastery of New Orleans piano. With two acclaimed Big Bear CDs behind them, Tipitina regularly excite and charm audiences at the Birmingham where they recorded a live album in 2011.
