Festival Reviews
Aneesa Chaudhry’s performance at the Bull Ring was well worth catching. Numbers ranged from classic Swing through to Jazz/Asian fusion, and none disappointed. Aneesa delivered all the sets with style and magnetism, despite the rain. The accompanying percussion was excellent, being based around novel instruments such as a box which also served as a seat. The CD ‘4 inch Heels, Lipstick & A Frock’ is recommended.

A great night of strong Jazz, ending with a jam with my local hero Steve Ajao. What a bonus! For photos search Flickr for brumkpr birmingham jazz

Becky Brine is a real find. Having seen her once with keyboards / drums/bass support, it was essential to see and hear her again. Last night at the Strathallan, backed by the brilliant, young violinist, Aaron Weinstein (sometimes, though, just a bit too greedy, young man) and the melodic Pat McCarthy on guitar, Becky was in great voice. Relaxed, funny--this was a fun night of jazz....and you don’t get that every night. Thank you, Becky. Let’s hope you’ll be back next year. Oh---and what about releasing a CD???

I’ve come to Birmingham for the weekend and got dragged into the Brasshouse. What a surprise this turned out to be. The music and the atmosphere (not to mention the hot bar staff) were excellent. Playing a mixture of original and some well known blues tunes, the band was sizzling. After hearing them i was amazed the gig was free. I’ll be telling everyone that Birmingham has got some hot blues bands and no doubt i’ll be seeing this one in London soon.

Really enjoyed katya and pat mccarthy together. They played youd beso nice to come home to, i was listening to Jim Hall's playing it on the way to the gig. On thursday Greg Abate's gig at the Rose and Crown was good too, a great version of Nows the time with Sonny Bradshaw siting in. Thanks Big Bear for the fest.
